The Grand National is a National Hunt, or jumps, horse race that is ran in April every year at Aintree racecourse in Liverpool, England. It is traditionally labelled the world’s most famous steeplechase and regarded as the most-watched horse race on the planet. 

 

The Grand National Meeting is now established as one of the great racing festivals. In early April each year, the world and its media descend upon Aintree Racecourse for three of the biggest days in the British sporting and social calendar, The Grand National, which will take place from the 13th – 15th April 2023.

 

The Grand National is a handicap horse race run over an official distance of around four-and-a-half miles, two-and-a-half furlongs. This makes it one of the longest races ran in Britain and Ireland

 

The Grand National is a gruelling marathon for the horses, lots can happen with up to 40 horses in the race with 30 fences to jump; some horses will be fitter than others, some will just not perform to their best on the day – there are so many factors to consider when it comes to the Grand National.

 

Lat year saw millions of people at Aintree to watch a fairy tale finish from Sam Waley-Cohen with his 50-1 winner – Noble Yeats, who goes down in history for making his last race before retiring a winning one in the Randox Grand National.
