The Bluebirds legends are not to be missed!

We are thrilled to welcome Cardiff City fans to ‘An Evening with the Bluebirds Legends’ at the city’s best-known venue for sporting dinners and hospitality, The Angel Hotel. Our event reunites three men who contributed so much to a golden era for the club in the new millennium, former manager Dave Jones, and two of his key players during his tenure, which saw the club achieve multiple top six finishes and reach an FA Cup Final, strikers and firm fan favourites, Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd. Guests will enjoy a delicious three course dinner before our three Bluebirds’ legends take to the stage with Sky Sports host Pete Graves, for an evening of football chat, tales from behind the scenes, and the chance to reminisce about a great period in the club’s history. This is an event not to be missed!

MICHAEL CHOPRA
One of Cardiff City’s best players of recent years, Michael displayed early promise at boyhood club Newcastle Utd, debuting for the senior team in 2002. His playing time at Newcastle was limited, and after
a series of successful loan spells, he joined Cardiff City in 2006, where he quickly became a fan favourite for his goal-scoring prowess. In Michael’s first season, he netted 22 league goals, helping Cardiff in their
campaign for promotion and becoming the club’s top scorer. His success in the Championship attracted interest from Premier League clubs, and Sunderland signed him in 2007. After scoring 8 goals in 39 Premier
League appearances for the Black Cats, he returned to Cardiff for two further stints, where his sharp finishing and commitment solidified his legacy at the club, yielding a total of 63 goals in 159 appearances
across his stints. Michael also achieved 31 England caps across the age groups from U16 to U20 and he remains fondly remembered for his impact at Cardiff City.

 

DAVE JONES
With a managerial career spanning three decades, Dave is perhaps best known for his long and successful tenure at Cardiff City from 2005 to 2011, steering the club from the lower reaches of the Championship to
the brink of the Premier League. Under his leadership, Cardiff reached the FA Cup Final in 2008, marking the club’s first appearance in the final since 1927, losing narrowly to Portsmouth. He guided Cardiff to the
Championship Playoffs multiple times, transforming the team into a consistent top-six contender. Prior to Cardiff, Jones had managed Stockport County, where he led them to promotion to the First Division, and
Wolverhampton Wanderers, achieving promotion to the Premier League in 2003. Known for his emphasis on attacking football and player development, he left a lasting impact at each club he managed. His dedication and knack for cultivating competitive squads make him a highly respected figure in football, especially at Cardiff City where he left an indelible mark.

 

JAY BOTHROYD
Jay began his professional journey at Arsenal’s academy, before making his senior debut with Coventry City in 2000, where he spent three seasons. Known for his strong physique, technical ability, and powerful
left foot, he had stints with Perugia in Serie A, and in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic. Following a two season spell with Championship rivals Wolves, he was signed for Cardiff
by Dave Jones in 2008, quickly finding his form, and scoring consistently across his career at the club, helping the team reach the Championship play-off final in 2010. His impressive performances in the 2010-
2011 season, where he scored 20 goals, earned him an England cap, making him Cardiff’s first player to represent England in nearly a century. His strike partnership with Michael Chopra was key to Cardiff’s
success during his time at the club, where his three seasons yielded 45 goals in 133 appearances, all under manager Dave Jones.

 

PETE GRAVES
A passionate Newcastle Utd fan, Pete has enjoyed a swift rise through the broadcasting ranks to become one of the most recognisable faces on Sky Sports. After leaving university, Pete started his broadcasting
career with Radio Tyneside, before working at Metro Radio, and then ITV Tyneside as a sports reporter. Since 2009 he has worked at Sky Sports, mainly as a presenter, where his passion for sport and all-round
knowledge are amongst his greatest assets. Over the past few years Pete has become the popular host of most our events, and we are delighted to have him as always!
