What is the Betfred Challenge Cup –

The Betfred Challenge Cup is a rugby league knockout competition that is ran and organised by the RFL (Rugby Football League)  The Challenge Cup is arguably one of the most prestigious tournaments in rugby league. This year’s Challenge Cup will be held for the first time at the newly renovated Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before it then returns to the historic stadium of Wembley in 2023. The competition is broadcast all across the world with the song – “Abide with Me”, which is sung before the game which has really become the rugby league anthem.


What is the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup –

The AB Sundecks 1895 competition is also ran and organised by the RFL (Rugby Football League) The tournament involves teams in League 1 and the Championship. The competition runs from January 2022 – May 2022 in which the final will be played at 12:00pm before The Betfred Challenge Cup Final at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.


What happened in both competitions Semi Finals –


1st Challenge Cup Semi Final game – 

The first semi-final game saw Wigan Warriors beating reigning champions St Helens in a spectacular game that same Wigan Warriors leading 14-0 at the break with tries from Liam Marshall, Cade Cust and Liam Farrell.

However, Saints were a different side after the break and hit back to lead with three tries in 10 minutes from Konrad Hurrell, Jonny Lomax and James Roby.

But Wigan dug deep, and Marshall pounced on a Saints attack breaking down to race in from inside his own half to seal a memorable 20-18 derby victory in a classic semi-final.


2nd Challenge Cup Semi Final game –

In the second semi-final game Huddersfield Giants reached their first Challenge Cup final since 2009 with a straightforward victory over Hull KR. With the game finishing 25-4

Josh Jones powered his way over to give the Giants a perfect start before Innes Senior ran the length of the field as they led 12-0 at the break.

Jermaine McGillvary extended their advantage with a brilliant solo score and Owen Trout sealed victory before Shaun Kenny-Dowall’s late consolation.


1st Semi Final game in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup –

Despite a spirited display in front of over 1,800 supporters at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium, Barrow Raiders were unable to match their in-form opponents Featherstone Rovers.


2nd Semi Final game in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup –

Leigh defeated a brilliant Sheffield Eagles side who used their experience from their 2019 cup final triumph. Nonetheless, Leigh’s relentless pressure eventually eroded Sheffield’s resistance leading to 30-12 victory


Challenge Cup & AB Sundecks 1895 finalist –

The AB Sundecks 1895 Cup finalist are – Featherstone Rovers v Leigh Centurions. Their game will be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 28th May 2022 just before the Challenge Cup Final at 12:00pm KO

Our Betfred Challenge Cup finalist are – Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants which will be played on Saturday 28th May 2022 at the new and impressive Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a kick off time of 3:00pm
