We are thrilled to confirm that we have brought together the two men who formed the deadly “SAS” partnership at the tournament, and in a striking double act over many years besides. Alan Shearer is without doubt one of the greatest strikers the country has ever produced, his position at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts has stood the test of time, and many argue he is England’s greatest ever striker. For many years Alan’s partner in the national side, Teddy Sheringham was one of the most cultured forwards to ever play for England, and his astonishing career at the top spanned 25 seasons! Hosted by Sky Sports’ Pete Graves, our event at the 5* Grosvenor house Hotel includes a superb three course lunch, complimentary bar of beers, wines and soft drinks, memorabilia auction and the chance to relive those balmy summer days in 1996, and other highlights of Alan and Teddy’s stunning careers all at Lunch With The Euro 96 Strikers.

 

Revered around the world as an all-time great, Alan Shearer was the complete centre forward, physically imposing, superb in the air, tenacious and with the ability to finish simply or spectacularly with either foot. His Premier League record looks unlikely to be beaten any time soon, an astounding 260 goals in 441 appearances for Blackburn Rovers and his beloved Newcastle Utd, with a further 23 top flight goals in the old First Division as a youngster with Southampton. With a total of 379 goals in 734 club appearances his record places him high in the pantheon of all-time greats of the global game, his 34 Premier League goals for Blackburn Rovers to help win the 1994/95 title being a highlight of his career. Alan appeared 63 times for England and scored 30 goals, Euro 1996 was his biggest success at international football as England reached the semi-finals, he was awarded the UEFA Euro Golden Boot and was named in the UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament. He went on to represent England at 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000, before shocking the football world by retiring from international football at just 30 years of age, in order to focus on his club career. Named as one of Pele’s FIFA 100 list of greatest living players, Alan Shearer was one of the first players inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021, amongst countless other career accolades.

 

Teddy enjoyed an astonishing professional career spanning 25 years, with almost 1000 appearances in club and international matches. A prolific striker, he scored over 350 goals, including 22 in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992-93, landing him the Golden Boot. His most successful spell came at Manchester Utd, where he won 3 consecutive Premier League titles between 1998-2001, and an FA Cup in 1999. Four days after the FA Cup triumph, Teddy scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, then with seconds remaining, Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored from Sheringham’s flick-on, and United won the famous treble of the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League. Regarded as a legend at White Hart Lane, his two spells at Spurs were very prolific, with 125 goals in 277 appearances. Despite not winning his first cap until 27, Teddy had an excellent England career with 11 goals in 51 matches, the highlight being the SAS partnership with Alan Shearer in 1996, when England made the semi-finals, including a 4-1 destruction of Holland, which we are sure to hear more about from our two legends at Lunch With The Euro 96 Strikers.
